M8 Can’t Make Calls
ProblemHi, my HTC1 phone has suddenly stopped making and receiving calls. It is 6 months old. When I dial a number there is no ringtone and although the other person’s phone rings out when they answer the phone I can’t hear them and they can’t hear me. Similarly when receiving a call when I click answer I hear nothing. I can still text, use camera, go on internet etc. it is just the calls. Please help.
Solution: The first thing that you need to do in cases like this is to reboot your phone. This refreshes it and may help resolve the issue.
If the issue still persists try using a headset when placing a call. If you can hear the person on the other end then the issue may be caused by your phone thinking that a headphone is constantly plugged in. If this is the case then try cleaning the 3.5mm headphone jack with compressed air or toothpick. There may be dirt present which is most likely causing this issue.
One other troubleshooting step that you can perform is a factory reset. This brings your phone back to its original condition however you will lose all your data. You should backup your data first before proceeding.
  • Turn off device
  • Press and hold the VOLUME DOWN button, and then press and hold the POWER button.
  • Wait for the screen with the three Android images to appear, and then release the POWER and VOLUME DOWN buttons.
  • Press VOLUME DOWN to select FACTORY RESET, and then press the POWER button.
M8 Facebook Issue
ProblemHello, I’ve been having troubles with my htc and the Facebook app. My htc had the Facebook app installed from factory when I bought it and it cannot be uninstall. Since I did the last update to my htc phone my Facebook app will not let me stream Facebook videos or let me get in other people pages/profiles. What can I do to fix it; since I cannot uninstall the Facebook app? Thanks!
Solution: Most apps that are pre-installed in Android devices are difficult to uninstall unless the device is rooted. Since the issue you are facing is only with the Facebook application then this is where we will concentrate our troubleshooting efforts.
Since you cannot install the app the next best thing that you can do is to clear out the cache and data of the app. Take note that by clearing the data you will have to enter again your Facebook username and password to access your account.
  • From the home screen, tap the All Apps icon.
  • Scroll to and tap Settings.
  • Scroll to and tap Apps.
  • Swipe to the ALL tab.
  • Scroll to and tap the Facebook application.
  • Scroll to and tap Clear cache.
  • Scroll to and tap Clear data.
  • The application cache and data is now cleared.
Try accessing your Facebook account again and see if the issue is still present.
Just in case the issue is still present repeat the procedure above but instead of clearing cache and data tap on uninstall app updates then try checking on your Facebook again.
M8 Bluetooth Issue
ProblemHi, I have searched high and low and cannot seem to find a solution to my extremely annoying issue but I found you and am really hoping you can help me out. I have tried three different brands of Bluetooth “earpiece-style” devices now and at first I thought it was a problem with compatibility between my HTC One and the specific Bluetooth device I had but now I’m certain it is within the phone itself.I can easily pair the devices, I have enough tech skills for that. I can also very clearly listen to sounds from the phone, music, Voxer messages etc. I can call people just fine and I can hear them well BUT, no one can ever hear anything but xckxckrrrkkxkkkcxkkkrkr on their end, it sounds terrible at the other end, static-robotic-crackling-underwater-you-name-it, everything but my voice or “normal-sounding sounds”. I have tried all the following without any luck:
  • restart, re-connect, un-pair, re-re-start
  • Installed a “Bluetooth-fix” app from Google Play
  • Tried a couple other Bluetooth apps (BTmono and can’t remember the name)
  • Backed up phone – wiped – restored and re-setup (restored from Google account)
  • Uninstalled some apps, backed up again, factory reset again, this time restore from HTC account.
Nothing worked so far, I am going crazy! I live in the state of WA and you can get a ticket for talking on your phone while driving so I pretty much have to have a working Bluetooth device.
Please let me know what on earth to try, I’m lost now.
My phone is this:
  • HTC6525VZW
  • Android 4.4.2
  • Software number: NuSenseSIX-KitKat-m7vzw_RC4.2_032914
I did not root this phone myself, it was rooted when I bought it, but at one point during this trouble shooting process I did “un-root” the phone with the installed SuperSU.
Solution: It appears that your phone is using the NuSenseSix custom ROM. This ROM is based on the stock Verizon HTC One M8 Rom with some improvements made. The version you are using which is Android 4.4.2 is an older version as 4.4.4 is already available. You should try to update your phone software to the latest version to see if this resolves the issue. Instructions on how to update this custom Rom can be found at several popular Android forums. You can start by checking out this XDA forum thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-htc-one-m8/development/rom-nusensesix-official-sense-6-0-t2832689).
M8 Camera Lens Scratch
Problem: Will you please give me any suggestions on what I should do about the back camera lens scratching? I heard that toothpaste would work. What’s your suggestion and how would I complete the task.
Solution: A lot of owners of this model are concerned about the scratches that occurs in the camera lens. Why is it that other phones don’t have this problem while the M8 has it? In reality it is not the camera lens that scratches easily but the coating on top of the glass. This coating gets scratched and can lead to poor quality photos.
The aim therefore is to completely take of this coating so that the camera lens will become clear again. Using toothpaste is a tried and tested method that actually works. Use a cotton to apply a small amount on the lens and rub it gently in a uniform pattern. Once the lens is coated with toothpaste it is time to clean it off. You will need a microfiber cloth dipped with a small amount of water in doing this. Make sure to rub the lens in a uniform pattern. As soon as the toothpaste has been completely removed you will notice that your lens is now clear.
M8 Volume Dropping on Its Own
ProblemHi, I’ve been using my M8 from May until now. When I was watching videos whether on YouTube, Instagram or MXPlayer, media volume will drop to 0 on its own, and I have to turn it up manually. This problem appears randomly, the volume jack is working fine though. Hope you could help, thanks in advance.
Solution: If this issue appears randomly then it may be caused by a glitch in the software. Check if there are any new software updates for your phone. These updates comes with improvements and bug fixes that may help resolve the issue.
You might also want to consider doing a factory reset on your phone. Make sure to back up your data first before proceeding.
M8 Auto Rotate Not Working After Display Repair
ProblemI have an m8 that I cracked the screen on within a month of purchasing. I sent it in to HTC for the free repair. They did not indicate it needed any other repairs and returned it fixed promptly. The auto rotate doesn’t work anymore. I can’t use anything except the camera in landscape. Can’t watch full screen videos or use web browser in landscape. Odd thing is that on two different surveys from HTC I indicated the problem but have never heard back from them. What might fix this?
Solution: You should check the auto rotate setting of your phone first if it is active.
  • Go to Settings, and then tap Display & gestures or Display, gestures & buttons.
  • Select or clear the Auto-rotate screen option to turn it on or off.
If screen rotation is not working even if auto rotate is active then you might want to do a recalibration of your phone G-Sensor.
  • Go to Settings
  • Tap Display, gestures & buttons (or Display & buttons) and then tap G-Sensor calibration.
  • Place HTC One on a flat and level surface, and then tap Calibrate.
  • After the recalibration process, tap OK.
Just in case the above steps fail to resolve the issue then you should contact HTC.
M8 Photos Can’t Be Viewed From MicroSD Card
ProblemHello, I recently bought the HTC One M8 (AT&T) & I also bought a 64g memory card. Ever since I installed the memory card, I can’t see my pictures, they are “grayed out”. If I saved my pictures to my phone I can see them but if I save them to the memory card I can’t see them. Can you tell me how to fix this issue? Thanks.
Solution: It looks like the problem is with the MicroSD card. Insert the card to your computer and backup its contents. After backing up the data go ahead and format the MicroSD. Use the FAT32 file system when doing a format. Insert the card back to your phone and see if the issue is still present. If the pictures are still greyed out then you should use another MicroSD card on your phone.
