How to Fix Common Problems With Sprint HTC One M8
SPRINT HTC ONE WON’T TURN BACK ON
Problem: I am a light user of my device (HTC One/Sprint) so I can say that overusing it is the cause of my problem. I was going over some website while at the same time browsing at my Instagram page when the phone suddenly shut itself down. I forgot if I charged it the night before so I plugged it in to my charger. I waited for 5 minutes before I tried to turn it back on while it was still tethered to the outlet when I realized that the phone is not responding at all. I thought it was a loose battery case so I unplugged it from my charger and reseated the battery. I waited for another 5 minutes before turning it back on, but I got the same result. I don’ t know what to do now. The phone is not old and barely six months. It’s never been broken before and I did not have a single problem. I have an impression that such an expensive gadget should last for more than 6 months. I don’t know anything about phones so please help me. I owe you one. — Chrystal
Solution: Hi Chrystal. You’re not the first HTC One owner who experienced this problem and this is one of the common problems for this smartphone. Assuming that the hardware is fine, we may still be able to revive your phone by following the steps below:
- Make sure to charge your phone using the original HTC charger that came in the box.
- Do not charge the phone using a computer because it takes longer time to fully charge the battery in this manner
- Leave the phone charged for at least 20 minutes or until the red LED glows solid.
- While the phone is still charging, press and hold the Power button for at least 15 seconds. If the phone will still not respond, press and holdPower, Volume up, and Volume down buttons for 1-5 minutes so the battery re-calibrates. This ensures that the battery have ample charge to power the HTC One again.
If the problem remains, try replacing the battery or the phone from the retailer.
CANNOT USE SCREENSHOT IN SPRINT HTC ONE
Problem: I’ve been a Samsung S3 user before my son working for the Army gave me his HTC One (Sprint) before shipping out. I’ve only have the HTC One for a week now and I don’t have the manual. How do I do a screenshot on this thing? I know how to do it in my Samsung S3 but obviously HTC has a different way to do it.
There are just some things on my screen that I want to share with a friend so I need to send her a screenshot. I have no time looking for answers in the Internet and it looks like you boys are more than willing to help those asking your help. Really appreciate it guys. — Susan

Step 2:
- Press and hold the Power button and the Volume down button at the same time

- Don’t know how to answer calls when HTC One screen is locked
Question: I have this weird question. I want to answer calls quickly without having to do the pattern to unlock the screen. I know this is possible because I used to see my friend do it on her HTC One. I was told that simply holding the phone near my ear should do the trick but obviously it’s not working. Please help.
Answer: The quickest way to answer an incoming call is by swiping down the lock screen. This tells the phone to immediately accept the call so you can begin the conversation.
If you want to use the proximity sensor on your phone to answer the call, make sure to select Auto Answer Call under Settings > Call. The proximity sensor is the one responsible in allowing the phone to auto answer when you bring the phone near you face when someone is calling.
HOW TO ALLOW KID MODE ON HTC ONE
Question: I have 2 kids who sometimes wants to play with my phone even though they have their own play tablets. They have messed up my email app on my HTC One before I ended up redownloading all of them again. Kids can ruin one’s day in a hurry you know. I was told by a friend that I can set something on my phone so kids can’t mess up with my stuff. How do I do it? — CrazyGirl
Answer: Hi CrazyGirl. HTC One has a feature called the Kid Mode to do exactly what you want. Kid Mode prevents kids from accidentally making a call or browsing files on your device. Kid Mode notification will be displayed on the screen while this option is active. To enter Kid Mode, hold the PowerButton on the phone and tap Kid Mode. Or, you can tap the Home key , Apps icon and then Kid Mode.
To set apps accessible to children, follow these steps:
- When in Kid Mode, you can choose which apps on your phone your child will have access to.
- On the Zoodles main screen, touch Parent Dashboard. (You can also go to Parent Dashboard from Settings > Security > Kid Mode.)
- Confirm your action with your child lock setting (either by drawing the letter Z on the screen or by entering your birth year).
- Under Basic Features, touch Apps. You’ll see a list of apps installed on your phone.
- If you’ve set up two or more child accounts, select the child you’re giving access to the apps.
- Touch the check option beside the app that you want your child to have access to in Zoodles, and then touch Save.
If you want to receive or block incoming calls while in Kid Mode, touch Settings icon > Device Options and then select or clear the Allow Incoming Calls option.
To exit Kid Mode, simply enter the PIN number and you’re back to gaining full control.

SET HTC ONE TO NOT RECEIVE CALLS AT SPECIFIC TIMES
Question: My job requires me to meet with corporate big shots daily for 2 to 3 hours and I’m really busy. The new HTC One issued by my company is still complicated for me to master so there are settings I don’t know how to enable or disable. Is it possible for the phone to be scheduled to go silent daily for a specific timestamp? For example, our meeting often happens from 9AM to 12 noon and I want my phone to become silent during those times so that when calls or text messages come in, the phone wouldn’t sound off. Can you tell me how?
Answer: The new HTC One M8 has a feature called “Do not disturb mode,” which allows the owner to reject calls and silence audible notifications and alerts. It can be turned on or off at owner’s discretion. I think this feature is what you need to make the phone behave the way you want it to be.
- With two fingers, swipe down from the status bar, and then touch Settings icon > Sound.
- Touch the Do not disturb ON/OFF switch to turn it on and off.
- Touch Do not disturb to set an auto turn off time or to allow the Clock app alarm and timer sounds to play when Do not disturb is on.
To set a Do not disturb schedule, follow these steps:
- With two fingers, swipe down from the status bar, and then touch Settings icon > Sound.
- Touch Do not disturb.
- Touch Do not disturb schedule and then touch Add icon.
- Set the start and end times for the schedule.
- To have the schedule repeat on specific days, touch Repeat and select which days you want it to occur.
- To select which contacts will be allowed to reach you when the Do not disturb schedule is active, touch Contacts to allow calls.
- Touch DONE.
HTC ONE M8 SCREEN DOESN’T AUTO-ROTATE
Problem: Recently, I update a bunch of app in my phone and installed some. The phone worked fine after that but today it is acting crazy. Sometimes the screen would auto-rotate but most of the time it doesn’t. I think one of the apps I installed may have caused this problem but I’m not really sure about that. Before I do something with my phone, I want to ask someone who is knowledgeable enough. I need your help to figure this out. What should I do?
Solution: By default the phone’s screen rotates when the phone is turned sideways and not all apps support landscape. I’m just saying as there is a possibility that the app you were using doesn’t support landscape orientation. Another thing is that one of the apps may have messed with your display settings so the first thing I want you to do is make sure auto-rotation is still enabled in your phone.
- With two fingers, swipe down from the status bar, and then touch Settings icon > Display & gestures.
- Clear the Auto-rotate screen option and touch Back key.
Now, if auto-rotation is on and the phone doesn’t rotate when turned sideways on all screens, I need you to calibrate the screen. Here’s how…
- With two fingers, swipe down from the status bar, and then touch Settings icon > Display & gestures > G-Sensor calibration.
- Place the phone on a flat surface, and then touch CALIBRATE.
- After the recalibration process, touch OK.
If all else fails, backup your data and perform factory reset.

I can view them but I don’t know how to save them locally to my phone so I can view them or back them up when needed to. Sorry, I’m not really a tech person so there are a lot of things in this phone that seem so strange to me. My children send me picture messages daily and I want them saved to my phone.
