M8 Netflix App Only Works On Wi-Fi
Problem: Hello, I’m writing to see if you might be able to help me with a problem; I have never been able to watch Netflix on my M8. I’ve called customer service for both T-Mobile and Netflix to no avail. It’s not an unlocked phone and the app opens, but won’t play movies when I’m using mobile data – only when I’m connected to Wifi. Do you happen to have any troubleshooting ideas?
Solution: Have you tried checking on the Netflix app settings to see if it is set to only stream shows over a Wi-Fi connection? This setting may be enabled, if so then disable it. This feature has been added to allow customers to save on mobile data charges if they are not on an unlimited data plan since streaming movies will consume a considerable amount of data.
If this setting is already disabled but you still can’t use the Netflix app using a mobile connection then I suggest you uninstall the app then head out over to the Google Play Store and download it again.
M8 Charging Issue
Problem: My M8 has been almost flawless. The only problems I’ve had have mostly been self-inflicted. However, recently I discovered that my phone wouldn’t charge using any compatible cord. What I found out was that I had to push the cord in only half way. If I pushed it to the hilt, the phone would not recognize the cord. It was a long week. T-Mobile/HTC was prepared to give me a new phone but I wasn’t convinced that the phone was bricked. Except for that, it’s working fine.
Solution: The first thing you should do is to check your phone charging port for any sign of debris or dirt. This may affect the charging process of your phone. If you spot any then you can clean it out using a toothpick.
If there is no noticeable dirt or debris present and you have already tried various cords with the same result then the problem may be with the phone charging port. If this is the case then it is already a hardware related issue. You should take up the offer to have your phone replaced.
M8 Calibration Issue
Problem: My wife has returned TWO of the phones to Verizon with severe calibration issues. After having the phone 2 months or slightly longer, touch screen reaction becomes ineffective or erratic. For example, when using the keyboard in the vertical position the “O”disappears and despite touching it over and over, only the “I” or the “p” shows up. In addition, the phone would not allow touching of the upper part of the screen in the horizontal position without either going to another app and opening it or reverting to another page when using Google. Verizon suggested it could be my wife’s SD card, but the phone continued with the issues after removing it. The phone was never wet,and though it was dropped, it was not dropped any more than the other 3 identical phones purchased at the same time. Have you heard if this issue before and if so, do you have any idea of the possible cause?
Solution: This issue my be caused by certain third party apps that are installed in your phone. You should boot your phone in Safe Mode to check if this is the case. While your phone is in this mode only the default apps are loaded while the third party apps that come from the Google Play Store are disabled.
Make sure the fast boot option of your phone is disabled before proceeding.
- Press and hold the Power button (located on the top edge of the device) until the ‘Phone options’ prompt appears then release.
- Tap and hold Power off until the ‘Reboot to safe mode’ prompt appears then release.
- From the ‘Reboot to safe mode’ prompt, tap RESTART to confirm.
- Allow approximately 1 minute for the process to complete.
- Upon reboot, ‘Safe mode’ appears in the lower left of the unlock/home screen.
If the issue goes away in Safe Mode then it is most likely caused by an app. You will have to find out what that app is and uninstall it.
In case the issue still persists even in Safe mode then you will have to perform a factory reset to determine if this is caused by a glitch in the software or if this may already be a hardware related problem. Make sure to backup all your phone data first and make sure that your phone is running on the latest software update before proceeding.
Make sure the fast boot option of your phone is disabled before proceeding.
- Press and hold the VOLUME DOWN button, and then press and hold the POWER button.
- Wait for the screen with the three Android images to appear, and then release the POWER and VOLUME DOWN buttons.
- Press VOLUME DOWN to select FACTORY RESET, and then press the POWER button.
Check if the issue still occurs. If it still occurs then this may already be caused by a faulty hardware component. You should contact Verizon regarding this.
M8 External Speaker Issue
Problem: When I plug my M8 into a headphone cord attached to my home stereo, the sound only comes out of the phone’s speakers. I’ve tried everything. I’m stumped.
Solution: Try connecting another pair of headphones to your phone and see if the sound comes out of it normally? If it does then there may be an issue with either the headphone cord that you are using or your home stereo.
If the sound comes out of your phone speaker no matter what pair of headphones you use then the problem may be with the phone itself. You should consider doing a factory reset to determine if the problem is with the phone software or hardware. You shoulf backup all data stored in your phone before proceding.
Check and see if the issue still occurs. If it dos then the problem may be hardware related. You should then bring your phone to an authorized service center for checking.

M8 GPS Not Working
Problem: Hi can u help me my GPS isn’t working on my HTC m8 it was good when I brought it and now it’s very slow and can’t get the right position where I am i try rebooting the phone and still not working what is wrong with it.
Solution: Several other owner of this device have also been complaining about this GPS issue. The issue appears to have started after 4.4.3 was released. If your phone is running on this software version then try to check if any new updates are available and install them. These updates come with improvements and bug fixes that may help resolve the issue.
If you are on the Sprint network then you should try to turn off Wi-Fi calling as this appears to affect the way your phone gets a GPS signal. Perform a network reset after this. To do a network reset do a open dial pad> and enter ##72786# > you should see Menu>Reset and the phone should reboot. Once the phone reboots, it will go through several updates your GPS functionality should be back to normal.
M8 Auto Sync Affecting Wi-Fi Network
Problem: Hello there i have a problem with my new HTC m8 phone i only upgraded a day ago couldn’t wait too buy the phone. Anyway the problem is when I turn the auto sync too on on the phone it totally shuts down my Wi-Fi in the house. I usually have 16 mbps but when auto sync is turned on it goes down too .3 what is wrong?
Solution: Your phone may be using up the bandwidth to sync data. You should observe this first for a couple of minutes or until the sync process has been completed. Check your speed once the sync has finished.
M8 Sound Issue
Problem: Hello, I just started using the HTC one m8 today and when I use snapchat to video with another user, they cannot here me at all. There is no sound coming from my microphone whatsoever. Is there a fix to this issue?
Problem: You will have to check first if this issue is isolated on the Snapchat app or if it occurs in any app that you use. Try using the voice recorder and record some sounds. If the recorded file can be heard then the microphone of your phone is working and the issue may just be with the Snapchat app.
You should uninstall the Snapchat app and reinstall it again.
M8 Photos Erased
Problem: Hi there, I have an HTC M8 which started yesterday deleting my photos for no reason and displaying the grey box in its place. Do u have any ideas how to stop this from happening please?
Solution: This issue usually occurs when you save photos on the phone SD Card. You should take out the card and insert it in your computer. From there, back up the contents of the card by copying its contents to a folder in your computer. Reformat the card using the FAT32 file system. You can copy back the contents you saved in your computer back to the SD card before inserting it to your phone.
For a more permanent solution I suggest getting a new SD card as the one you are using may already be faulty.
