M8 Screen Not Responding To Touch
Problem: I have an HTC android that I’m having issues with the Sensitivity of the screen. 99% of the time it won’t open or do anything as if I’m not even touching or trying to open an app or etc…I have calibrated it on a flat surface and tried many different things but still fails to sense my fingers on the screen. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Solution: You should backup your phone data then do a factory reset. This will eliminate the possibility of any corrupt data, app, or a glitch in the software that may be causing this problem.
- Press and hold the VOLUME DOWN button, and then press and hold the POWER button.
- Wait for the screen with the three Android images to appear, and then release the POWER and VOLUME DOWN buttons.
- Press VOLUME DOWN to select FACTORY RESET, and then press the POWER button.
If the issue persists after a factory reset then this may already be a hardware related problem. The digitizer of your phone may already be faulty or this may be a board related problem. Your best option is to bring your phone to an authorized service center for checking.
M8 Wi-Fi Not Working After Lollipop Update
Problem: Hi, I was wondering could you help me …I used the automatic download yesterday for lollipop, but ever since I can’t use WiFi.it keeps scanning but can’t connect .I’ve done factory reset and changed name on Wi-Fi direct but neither works.
Solution: This Wi-Fi related problem after the Lollipop update not only occurs for the M8 but for other Android models as well. The usual fix for this is a factory reset or even rebooting both the phone and the router. Clearly this is a bug of the software and unless Google releases a patch all fixes that we do are only temporary.
Other things you can try are listed below
- Turn on airplane mode then turn it off after a couple of seconds.
- Forget your Wi-Fi network then scan for it again and connect to it.
- Uninstall third party apps from your phone.
- Change the Wi-Fi channel.
M8 Bluetooth Handsfree Disconnects When Screen Is Off
Problem: Hello there. A recent problem I have noticed. I have a new HTC M8 (less then 2 months) and a Jabra Supreme bluetooth head set (less then a year old) and I am unable to make out going calls over the headset when the phone’s screen is off. I am running an Android OS, version 5.0.1 and up until recently I have had no problems. When I use the head set when the screen is on and unlocked, I can call out hands free with no problem, as per normal. When the screen is off, or when the screen is still locked, I am unable to complete a call. I have caught glimpses of the control window when I have unlocked the phone, but it is always disappearing. There is no expected feedback from the headset. If I disable the lock screen, it will still not work when the screen is off. And all this is the same weather or not the security screen is active. I have checked for updates and I have all the latest versions. I have uninstalled and re-installed the Headset, rebooted the phone several times, all to no avail. I also have not had any recognized issues with the headset before now. I have made outgoing calls on the headset before, but I cannot honestly recall if they were when the screen is off or not. I would appreciate any insight you may have. Many thanks.
Solution: Try to check if power saving mode is enabled in your device and if it is try turning it off.
- Go to Settings, and then tap Power.
- Tap the Power saver On/Off switch to turn power saver mode on or off.
If this issue persists then you should consider doing a factory reset. This will eliminate any data from the previous software version that may still be in your phone and may be causing this issue. Just be sure to back up your data first before proceeding.
If the issue still occurs then this could be a bug in the software. You’ll have to wait for the next update for a possible fix.
M8 Unknown Error When Using Avast Premium
Problem: Using Avast Anti-virus Premium and backups have started getting error: Backup error: Reason Unknown. Also, I notice if I try to go to Mobile Backup it now ask me to setup Google Drive Account. When I click Setup Google Drive Account I get “Error Querying Data: Reason Unknown.” I have Android 4.4.4 (KitKat) and am using Verizon Wireless. (Also have tried Google Drive connect via wireless at home and at work.) Thus far Avast support has had me uninstall and reinstall app and some other minor things. Nothing has helped.
Solution: Have you tried using different modes of Internet connection? If this issue occurs while you are connected to a Wi-Fi network try switching to your mobile data connection and vice versa. This allows you to check if the problem is connection related.
If this issue occurs on any data connection mode then the next step you should take is to wipe the cache partition of your phone.
- Turn off the device.
- Press and hold the Volume Down key.
- Press and release the Power key to turn the phone on.
- Continue holding the Volume Down.
- Release the Volume Down key when the three Android images appear on the bottom of the screen.
- Press the Volume Down key once to move the cursor from FASTBOOT to RECOVERY.
- Press the Power key to begin the wipe.
- The device displays the bootup screen followed by a phone with a red triangle.
- Press the Up Volume key and Power key at the same time.
- Press the Down Volume key three times to select Wipe cache partition.
- Press the Power key to initiate the wipe.
- Wait until the phone displays Cache wipe complete.
- Press the Power key to select Reboot system now.
If the issue persists then a factory reset is highly recommended. Make sure to back up your phone data before proceeding.

M8 uEffects Not Working
Problem: Hi! I ordered a new HTC M8 H/K, and when it came i observed a problem. All uEffecsts (duo camera) doesn’t work (there was kitkat 4.4.4). Today I had installed lollipop (O-T-A), but it didn’t resolved the problem. I don’t know what to do. I checked all camera settings at official HTC site. There’s no problem. When i close the second camera with my finger, the phone must say me, that “Camera is closed”, but it doesn’t say it. With the main camera i can take pictures without problems. All other functions work normally. I’m sure that there’s no problems with settings or camera mode, I chose it right, that’s for sure. When i had received a picture from another HTC M8, i could use uffects from gallery without any problem. My operator is Orange (Moldova, Chisinau city), maybe you need this information. On the main screen i can always see the GPS sign turned off, maybe it will say you smth, because i can’t remove it. I have no other problems with this device. Reset doesn’t help. Please, tell me, what i must do to fix it.
Solution: Since the camera can’t recognize your finger blocking it then this may already be a hardware related problem. You should consider bringing your phone to an authorized service center for checking.
M8 Randomly Activates Car Mode
Problem: I got my HTC one M8 on December 27th and so far it has been completely fine but just today it has been going into car mode constantly and even has twice while I typed the first sentence. Anyway it is really frustrating and also when I’m on chrome it keeps refreshing when I’m on a webpage or even when I’m on an app like a reading app it will refresh to go to the beginning of the chapter. Also when I plug my earphones in, it suddenly stops and then I pressed play again but it played aloud and it keeps doing it now and I’m close to tears because I’ve only had it for less than 2 months so please could you help me. I know that you don’t reply to every email but please could you.
Solution: The issue with your phone going to car mode randomly may be caused by certain third party apps running in your phone. To check if this is the case you should start your phone in Safe Mode.
- Press and hold the Power key.
- On the screen, touch and hold Power off under Phone Options.
- When the ‘Reboot to safe mode’ message appears, tap RESTART.
- When the phone restarts it will be in safe mode.
If the issue does not occur then it is most likely caused by a third party app. Find out what that app is and uninstall it.
If the issue still occurs even in Safe mode then try disabling the dock app.
- From the home screen, tap the All Apps icon.
- Scroll to and tap Settings.
- Scroll to and tap Apps.
- Swipe to the ALL tab.
- Scroll to and tap the Dock application.
- Tap disable
If the issue persists then you should consider doing a factory reset. This may also resolve the web browsing and earphone issue that you are experiencing. Make sure to back up your data before proceeding.
M8 Custom Ringtone Not Working On Contacts
Problem: I apologize if this has been covered already, but I didn’t see it. My Verizon M8 does not play custom ringtones even though I have them set on individual contacts. When I add the custom ringtone, it looks like it should be working, but when I get a call from that contact it reverts to the default ringtone. I like to set a special ring tone for family and close friends so that I can recognize the call as one I want to take. Android 4.4.4, Sense 6, not rooted.
Solution: First make sure that you are adding the ringtone correctly.
- From the home screen, tap the All Apps icon.
- Tap People.
- Scroll to and tap a contact.
- Scroll to and tap Ringtone.
- Tap a ringtone, then tap APPLY.
- The ringtone is now applied to the contact.
If you followed the same procedure but the issue remains the same then start your phone in Safe Mode to check if a third party app is causing this.
- Press and hold the Power key.
- On the screen, touch and hold Power off under Phone Options.
- When the ‘Reboot to safe mode’ message appears, tap RESTART.
- When the phone restarts it will be in safe mode.
If in Safe Mode your contacts ringtone are working then the problem may be caused by an app installed in your phone. Find out what that app is and uninstall it.
If the issue persists then you should try updating your phone to Android Lollipop.
M8 Video File Not Supported Error After Lollipop Update
Problem: Hi there. I have recently red your articles about the common problems or issues regarding the htc one m8 and i would appreciate it a lot if you guys could help me out. I recently updated to lollipop and as soon as i did i started to notice an issue about the camera, specifically about video recording. When i start recording a video everything goes fine till the end, but after i stop recording i press home then lock the screen. After that as soon as i try to open the video through stock sense gallery it gives me an error saying that the type of file is not supported. This issue doesnt always occur, sometimes happens sometimes not, but believe me it’s a real pain in the butt when it happens because i have to delete them and it may be a very important video. Help me please, thank you!
Solution: If this issue occurred right after you updated your phone to Lollipop then do a factory reset on your phone. There may still be data from the old software version present in your device which is causing a conflict with the new software version. This may be causing the video issue you are having. Make sure to back up your data before doing the factory reset.
If you are saving the video to the microSD card then there is also a possibility that the card may be defective. Try changing the microSD card of your phone and see if the issue still occurs.
M8 App Data Missing After Lollipop Update
Problem: I have an app that I use to keep track of the hours that I work (to bill clients), and I have lost all my data after the rollout. The app is Hours Keeper Pro, and it is supposed to sync with Dropbox, but the app keeps crashing when I try to link the two. This seems to be the only app that I lost data on. Any ideas? Im desperate. Thanks.
Solution: It appears that the app may have compatibility issues with the Lollipop update. Have you tried uninstalling the app and installing a fresh version from the Google Play Store? If no new version of the app is available yet then you may have to wait for the next available update of the app.
