M8 Camera Closes On Its Own
ProblemI read the article mentioning your email address while looking for a way to solve my problem. If you could help that would be great. My camera won’t work. I open the camera app or anything involving the front or back camera and it won’t work. The app opens for a brief 2 seconds and the screen stays black before the app closes itself again. It started out of the blue last night around 7:00pm and I have tried restarting the phone several times to no avail. Do you think you could help? It’s the new HTC One M8, software is up to date and because I’m no good at this that’s all I know. Any help to fix this would be greatly appreciated, thank you.
Solution: There may be two factors that is causing this problem. First, it could be caused by some corrupt data in the camera app itself. Second, it could be caused by a conflict with a certain third party app installed in your phone.
Let’s first check if it is the camera app itself that’s causing the problem by clearing its cache.
  • From a home screen, tap Apps
  • Tap Settings.
  • From the DEVICE section, tap App manager.
  • From the ALL tab, tap the Camera app.
  • From the Cache section, tap Clear cache.
If the issue still persists then the next step is to determine if a certain app you installed in your phone is affecting the way your camera works. For this you will have to start your phone in Safe Mode. Make sure to disable Fast boot first.
  • Press and hold the Power button (located on the top edge of the device) until the ‘Phone options’ prompt appears then release.
  • Tap and hold Power off until the ‘Reboot to safe mode’ prompt appears then release.
  • From the ‘Reboot to safe mode’ prompt, tap RESTART to confirm.
If in this mode you can use the camera normally then the issue is most probably caused by an app you installed. Find out what that app is and uninstall it.
M8 Does Not Connect To Car Bluetooth
ProblemHi Droid guy, I have been following your series of post’s about M8 problems. I have a problem with the Bluetooth on my M8. I have had my M8 for a few months now and despite everything I have tried I can’t get my phone to connect to the Bluetooth hand free in my car. My phone does not find the device, I have reset the Bluetooth device to clear other phone’s it has connected to in the past, but my M8 still doesn’t find it. I have a standard supertooth Buddy device in my car. Any suggestions or help would be much appreciated, I normally use the Buddy all the time when driving. Regards.
Solution: One of the most common issues faced by smartphones is their ability to connect with other Bluetooth devices especially connecting to a car Bluetooth. Try to perform the troubleshooting steps listed below to resolve the issue.
  • Delete any pairings between the Bluetooth device and the phone by going to Settings – Bluetooth, then try to connect again
  • Ensure the phone and bluetooth device firmware are up to date.
  • Avoid using special characters in naming the device or providing a password. To change your device name, go to Settings – Bluetooth – Device name.
  • Make sure message access is on by going to Settings – Bluetooth – Advanced.
M8 Speaker Not Working
ProblemMy HTC one speakers just random stopped working then I plugged it into the charger and it wouldn’t charge so then I restarted it and it worked fine than today the speakers aren’t working but it will charge now I keep restarting it and it still is not working what can I do my phone is only like 6 months old and I’ve never dropped it. Please help.
Solution: If your speakers are not working then the first thing you should check is the audio port of your phone. If there are any dirt present inside then your phone may think that headphones are connected to it. This reroutes the sound to the audio port and not to your phone speaker. Try cleaning this port with a toothpick.
You should also try disabling your Bluetooth connection. Your phone may be connected to a Bluetooth audio device which will disable the speaker of your phone.
If the audio port looks fine then the next step you should do is to perform a factory reset on your phone. This eliminates any software related problems that may be causing this issue. Make sure to backup your data first before proceeding.
Note: Fast boot setting must be disabled.
  • Press and hold the VOLUME DOWN button, and then press and hold the POWER button.
  • Wait for the screen with the three Android images to appear, and then release the POWER and VOLUME DOWN buttons.
  • Press VOLUME DOWN to select FACTORY RESET, and then press the POWER button.
If the issue still persists then this may already be a hardware related problem. You should bring your phone to an authorized service center for checking.
M8 Internet Connection Issues
ProblemHello, I have been having troubles with my phone’s connection to service and WiFi. Whenever I go to school I turn my phone on airplane mood to conserve battery with the low service I have. After I leave school and I am in the car I turn off airplane mode. After I do this my phone will say it has 4G or 3G, but whenever I open an app or anything that uses service, my phone will basically not use the service. The little symbol beside my 4G and 3G won’t spin either showing that it won’t use the service. I try turning it off and on and turning airplane mode on and off but nothing will work until it randomly fixes itself after about 20-30 mins. If you have any solutions that would be great. Thanks!
Solution: Does this issue occur in only one particular area? The mobile data network in your school may be spotty causing this issue to happen. To eliminate any network related issues try not to turn on the airplane mode of your phone when you are at school then try to access the Internet on the 4G or 3G network. If you can’ access the Internet then it’s a network related issue.
If however you can access the Internet then there’s a possibility that switching on and off the airplane mode of your phone is causing the issue. What you should do is to try to wipe the cache partition of your phone to clear out any corrupt temporary data.
  • Turn off the device.
  • Press and hold the Volume Down key.
  • Press and release the Power key to turn the phone on.
  • Continue holding the Volume Down.
  • Release the Volume Down key when the three Android images appear on the bottom of the screen.
  • Press the Volume Down key once to move the cursor from FASTBOOT to RECOVERY.
  • Press the Power key to begin the wipe.
  • The device displays the bootup screen followed by a phone with a red triangle.
  • Press the Up Volume key and Power key at the same time.
  • Press the Down Volume key three times to select Wipe cache partition.
  • Press the Up Volume key and Power key at the same time.
  • Press the Down Volume key three times to select Wipe cache partition.
  • Press the Power key to initiate the wipe.
  • Wait until the phone displays Cache wipe complete.
  • Press the Power key to select Reboot system now.
M8 Touch Display Not Responding
ProblemHi guys my phone first 4 menus won’t tap, the calculator, calendar, camera , clock. It’s like its stiff but the other buttons work and it’s affecting my work. Basically a quarter of the screen doesn’t work. Pls help me.
Solution: Try performing a factory reset on your phone. Make sure to backup you phone data first. If the issue still persists then it’s probably a hardware related problem. I suspect that the digitizer of your phone is already faulty. You should bring your phone to an authorized service enter and have its hardware checked.
M8 Connected To Bluetooth Speaker But No Sound
ProblemHello I have a HTC one m8 Harman kardon edition from Sprint.  I love the phone except for an issue with the Bluetooth.  I have had this issue with 3 different bt devices.  What happens is I will pair my headset to the phone then open Pandora or the music player.  The phone shows that the headset is connected and that the sound is to route to the Bluetooth device but I only get sound from the phone’s speakers.  You can reboot the phone, resync the Bluetooth device, delete the pairing and repair/connect the phone and headset, turn off then on the Bluetooth antenna and nothing fixes it except one thing: placing a phone call.  If I don’t that the audio route to the Bluetooth headset and from there I am good to listen to my music, until the next time I pair the 2.  Any ideas? I just updated the phone’s firmware yesterday to the latest from Sprint and HTC.
Solution:  This appears to be a bug in the phone software. Have you tried starting your phone in Safe Mode and check if the issue still occurs? If it doesn’t occur in Safe Mode then a certain third party app may be causing this to happen. You should find out what that app is and uninstall it.
M8 Not Allowing Creation Of New APN
Problem: I am in Belgium and want to use my HTC one m8 with a different sim card but the access port will not allow me to make a new APN.  When I go to settings and go through to get to my APN and click on the three little buttons on top the menu only gives me Reset to default and I do but it never gives me the option to make a new APN. Any ideas, I need my phone it has everything from the states in it.
Solution: The latest software update of the phone does not have the option to make a new APN. One way to work around this issue is to edit the APN settings of your phone to the settings used by the different SIM.
M8 No Call Audio
ProblemHello, I have an HTC One M8. I have no in call audio. If I make a call I can hear nothing, no ring tone, no talking. The person I am calling receives the call but when they answer can only hear static.  I have restarted y phone and completed a factory rested with no luck. Please help. Thanks.
Solution: Have you tried checking the audio jack of your phone for any signs of damage or dirt? If there are then your phone may think that a headphone is inserted causing the volume to be routed to the audio jack. If cleaning the audio jack fails to resolve the issue then there may be another hardware component in your phone that has failed. You should bring your phone to an authorized service center for checking.
M8 Google/G+ Crashes
ProblemI’m having a huge problem with almost everything Google and G+ related, crashing. I have serious problems just getting a picture in messenger to attach. Once I click on attach, and pick where to choose from, gallery or photos, instantly those crash shut down and the error states “G+ has ..etc..” and I’ll have to try again. This usually happens twice. Once the picture has attached and it’s in the messenger I add the contact name and try to add text to the message it automatically opens up the picture and then turns it into a draft. I’ve tried opening from messenger, contacts, messages, previous texts to anyone, and same thing. I’ve had up to 7 drafts of the same picture. I just recently tried to check my gmail, and that error stated that Google had encountered an error and crashed. Has anyone else encountered any of these issue?
Solution: To resolve this issue you should first check if your phone is running on the latest software update. If there are new updates available then install them immediately.
Once you have verified that your phone is running on the latest software the next step to do is to wipe the cache partition of your phone. This clears out any corrupt temporary data stored in your phone memory which I suspect is causing this issue.
If the issue persists then you should consider doing a factory reset. Take note that you should backup your data first as this will be deleted in the process.
