M8 Not Playing Music When Connected To Car Bluetooth
Problem: My HTC m8 connects to my car and I can make calls but it does not see my phone when I want to play music. It used to work fine, then went bad sometime and now it never sees it. My mother’s car can play my music just fine. Another issue, I try to plug in the usb, but message says it is connecting but never connects.
Solution: If you were able to play music previously then this may just be a connection or setting related issue. Try to delete the Bluetooth connection between both devices from your phone and car. Pair both devices again.
- Turn on your phone Bluetooth
- Make sure the other device is turned on and is ready to connect via Bluetooth.
- Your mobile phone now searches for devices and after a moment, a list of Bluetooth devices within range is displayed.
- Tap the required Bluetooth device.
- Follow the instructions on the display to pair the Bluetooth device with your mobile phone.
- The new device is displayed on the list of paired devices.
Once paired tap on the connection setting and make sure that it is set to stream both voice and music.

M8 Keyboard Lag Issue
Problem: Hi I’ve just discovered your site and as an android lover in particular the HTC, I have had a desire HD an M7 and now this, my M8, I have been using it for the last 7 months or so and I am loving it, I also have a Samsung galaxy kids tab. The problem I’ve been having has been there since the day I got it but it was bearable if not a little frustrating, I noticed it happening with Snapchat at first then started to happen to other apps too, when I am using the keyboard (I’ve always used the native HTC sense keyboard until recently) the keys seem to be laggy and the accuracy of the keyboard is out, I’ve tried taking it into the shop and found that they aren’t keen to help me besides the problem not occurring in their presence, I called my network for advice and they advised me to reset the phone which I have done but to no avail, I have been through the calibration sequence and still see no improvement, I have downloaded SwiftKey keyboard to see if that helps however the problem remains, I am totally at a loss as to solving the problem, I’m not really wanting to use the warranty for any repairs if I’m going to find the problem is still present but it is starting to look like the only way to fix it, the phone has started to change whole screens/pages and selection by the long press can be unusable at times, for example if I want to use emoji, I press and hold the key but it will shut down the keyboard or close the app, I hope I’ve explained it well enough for you to understand what I mean? Any help or advice on the matter will be appreciated.
Solution: In this situation I’d recommend wiping the cache partition of your phone then starting it in Safe Mode. This way, you will be able to check if certain third party apps installed in your phone is causing this issue.

- Press and release the Power key to turn the phone on.
- Continue holding the Volume Down.
- Release the Volume Down key when the three Android images appear on the bottom of the screen.

- Press the Power key to begin the wipe.
- The device displays the bootup screen followed by a phone with a red triangle.
- Press the Up Volume key and Power key at the same time.
- Press the Down Volume key three times to select Wipe cache partition.
- Press the Power key to initiate the wipe.
- Wait until the phone displays Cache wipe complete.
- Press the Power key to select Reboot system now.
Safe Mode
- Press and hold the Power key.
- On the screen, touch and hold Power off under Phone Options.
- When the ‘Reboot to safe mode’ message appears, tap RESTART.
- When the phone restarts it will be in safe mode.
If in Safe Mode the issue does not occur then it’s most likely caused by a third party app. Find out what this app is and uninstall it.
M8 Downloaded System Upgrade Corrupted
Problem: Hi guys. I’ve downloaded the system update twice and each time, after the download, it says that the system update is corrupted and I’m told to download it again. Why do i think that is and what should i do?
Solution: Are you downloading the update using a Wi-Fi connection? If you are then this may be the cause of the problem. Your connection may be unstable. Try using another Wi-Fi connection or you can also use the HTC Sync Manager to update your phone.
- Connect your phone to your computer. If your phone has an available update, a notification displays.
- Click Upgrade.
- On the Software Upgrade Assistant page, select your phone from the list, and then click Upgrade. Your computer downloads the update. After the download is completed, the software update process starts immediately.

M8 Hangs Every Time Incoming Call Is Answered
Problem: Hi… I’m having a problem with my M8 on Sprint Network. Since the last update (I’m not sure whether it was a Sprint or Google update) approx 2 weeks ago, the phone hangs up every time I try to answer an incoming call. I can place calls fine. I have re-booted, cleared the cache, tried turning WiFi calls off/on, turned the proximity sensor off/on. I tried disabling Google Voice, but it wouldn’t let me…it just duplicated all my voice and text messages in the stock OS as well as in Hangouts/Voice. It will occasionally allow me to answer if my screen is already unlocked, but never when it is locked. This is very frustrating. After all, the original purpose of a phone was to make/receive voice calls. I do not have many apps on the phone, and none that were installed recently. Stock ROM (for now). Sprint forums attributed another users problem with an unknown app. I attached a screenshot of the software versions. Thanx for any help.
Solution: It is possible that a third party app installed in your phone is causing this issue. To check if this is the case you should start your phone in Safe Mode.
- Press and hold the Power key.
- On the screen, touch and hold Power off under Phone Options.
- When the ‘Reboot to safe mode’ message appears, tap RESTART.
- When the phone restarts it will be in safe mode.
If your phone does not hang when you answer an incoming call in this mode then the issue is most likely caused by an app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.
M8 Left Part Of Screen Not Working
Problem: Hi, i have had my HTC one m8 for around 7 months. For the past few days i have been having issues with the screen, for some reason part of the left side of the screen doesn’t work and i am unable to use part of my key board and apps that are placed to the left side of my phone. This issue was completely random, as it was perfectly fine until it started randomly opening apps by itself. Once this happened i did turn my phone off and then on again, and i also restarted it but it never helped. I don’t understand why this is happening, and sadly i am unable to make use of my phone fully, if you could help me i would very much appreciate it, thank you.
Solution: You should back up your phone data and do a factory reset. This procedure eliminates any possible software related issue that may be causing this problem.
- Press and hold the Power button
- Tap Power off.
- Press and hold the Volume Down key.
- Press and release the Power key to turn the phone on.
- Continue holding the Volume Down key.
- Release the Volume Down key when the three Android images appear on the bottom of the screen.
- Press the Volume Down key twice to move the cursor from FASTBOOT to FACTORY RESET.
- Press the Power key to perform the master reset.
If the problem remains then this may already be a hardware related issue. The phone digitizer may already be faulty. Bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.
M8 “Duo camera effects unavailable for this image” Error
Problem: I am seeking your help because I can’t use my duo camera on my HTC one M8. When taking photos I can’t edit pictures using the duo camera effects, when doing such I get the following message ‘Duo camera effects unavailable for this image’. Despite having fulfill all criteria for duo camera it is still the same problem.
Solution: First, make sure that your phone settings are properly set.
- Scene – Auto
- Flash – Off
- Crop – Wide 16:9
- Zooming – Lowest level
When taking a photo make sure that your finger does not block the second camera lens.
Things to remember
- Post-processing effects for Duo Camera may not work if your subject and background are too close or when you’re taking a close-up shot.
- You can’t apply Duo Effects to burst shots or zoomed-in photos.
- Duo Camera in an environment where there is a good light source. Post-processing effects for Duo Camera do not work for low light.
If the issue persists then try to clear the cache of the HTC Gallery app.
- From any Home screen, tap Apps.
- Tap Settings.
- Scroll to ‘PHONE,’ then tap Apps.
- Scroll left to the ALL tab.
- Tap the HTC Gallery application.
- Tap Clear Cache.
- Tap OK.
M8 Power Button Stopped Working
Problem: Hello, I was looking at your post about common HTC One problem fixes, but did not see the issue I am facing. My current problem is that my top power/lock button stopped functioning. I would just let my phones screen time out and then double tap the screen to get it to open up, until… my phone did an automatic update and shut off… now I can no longer turn my phone on. I plugged my phone in and tried using the power button as it was charging, the indication light is lit on the top speaker by the camera, but it still will not come on. Have you had anyone with this problem before? Is there a way to fix it? I just need to get the phone to turn on so I can get videos off of it before they are lost.
Solution: If your phone is switched off and the power button is defective then you won’t be able to turn it on. Your only option is to bring the phone to an authorized service center and have it repaired.
M8 Downloading Optimizing App When Powered On
Problem: Hi, I was wondering if you could assist me with my HTC One M8. I just got it and It’s currently running on Lollipop 5.0.1 although what I describe below also occured when it was running without Lollipop 5.0.1. I notice that whenever I power the device on it will say that Android is upgrading and that it is optimising 1 of 1 app. I don’t know if that’s something that shouldn’t be happening or not. It’s new for me because that never happened with my HTC One X. Thanks for any help/advice you can provide. Kind regards.
Solution: There may be new updates available for the apps installed in your phone. Just make sure you are connected to a stable Wi-Fi connection and let it finish downloading the updates.
M8 Randomly Taps On Its Own
Problem: I used the phone for about a year now and it was fine until my phone started having “ghost taps” where it would randomly click on its own. It wouldn’t be that annoying except, it constantly presses my home button. Makes it impossible to watch videos, or type a text message. What would we the best solution? Take it to Verizon?
Solution: This could be a software related issue. You should back up you phone data then proceed with a factory reset.
Don’t install any apps in your phone yet. Observe it first and see if the issue still occurs. If it does then this may already be a hardware related issue. Bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.
M8 App Loading Issue
Problem: Hi, I have an HTC One M8 and after playing a game for some time (Deck Heroes), I click to load it up. When it reaches 100%, the game goes off the screen and it makes me have to click it a second time to finally load up into the game. Is there a solution for that? Also, I have an app that I have called LINE where you talk to others. After a while being on the phone, I click on the icon and looks like it’s beginning to load then cuts off. At that point I must uninstall, then do hard reset and reinstall. I mean I don’t mind doing it over and over, but if there is a permanent fix, please tell! The LINE app works for maybe through 2 weeks and I have to do what I said above. Is there anything wrong with my phone on having to load Deck Heroes up twice and the hard reset after uninstall and reinstall to make it work again? Thanks!
Solution: Wiping the cache partition of your phone usually helps in this case since the issue appears to be caused by corrupt data.
- Press and hold the Volume Down key.
- Press and release the Power key to turn the phone on.
- Continue holding the Volume Down.
- Release the Volume Down key when the three Android images appear on the bottom of the screen.
- Press the Volume Down key once to move the cursor from FASTBOOT to RECOVERY.

- Press the Down Volume key three times to select Wipe cache partition.
- Press the Power key to initiate the wipe.
- Wait until the phone displays Cache wipe complete.
- Press the Power key to select Reboot system now.
You should also clear the cache and data of the Deck Heroes game and Line app.
- From any Home screen, tap Apps.
- Tap Settings.
- Scroll to ‘PHONE,’ then tap Apps.
- Scroll left to the ALL tab.
- Tap the desired application.
- Tap Clear Cache.
- Tap OK.
- Tap Clear Data.
Finally, check the Google Play Store if there are any available updates for both apps.
M8 Not Recognizing Audio File
Problem: Hi, I recently encountered an issue with my phone. My phone no longer recognizes any audio media such as MP3.I had playlists set up and everything. I am using Rocket Player and can no longer see any music. I scanned the device for music and it is not picking up anything. This issue only happened recently and I don’t know how to fix it. Even the stock music player does not recognize any music.
Solution: Try to restart your phone and see if this resolves the issue.
If your audio files are stored in the microSD then try taking it out and reinsert it (make sure your phone is switched off when doing this).
If you have another microSD then copy some audio files into it and insert it in your phone. Check if you are now able to see the audio files. If you can then your old microSD may already be faulty. You should consider backing up its contents then format it or replace it with a new one.
If your audio files are saved in the phone internal storage then you should check if wiping the cache partition of your phone can solve this issue.
