M8 Duo Camera Issue
ProblemHello, please I don’t know what the function of the Duo camera is for, I read I can change the background/foreground of pix capture by this M8 but i haven’t been able to do it. I tried downloading the HTC gallery for play store but it says not compatible please advice on a way forward. also my GPS is not locking at all.
Solution: The Duo camera of this phone allows you to take photos without worrying about the camera settings. The main camera takes the actual photo while the second camera records the depth perception information of the photo.
Once you have taken your desired photo you can edit it to manipulate the focal point. To do this you need to open the photo then tap Edit and Effects and tap Ufocus. Your phone will prompt you to tap anywhere in the photo to refocus. This allows you to bring your background or foreground into focus. You can also emphasize your subject so that it will be the center of attention.
Regarding the GPS issue of your device you should first check if there are any software updates available for your phone. HTC recently released a minor software update that contains among other things an update to fix the GPS performance of the device.
M8 Charging Issue
ProblemHey there droid guy, I have been experiencing two main issues, one of them being more serious and affecting performance. The simpler one is simply a nuisance, the gallery app displays pictures from absolutely anywhere. Making finding my real pictures a drag. It shows system emojis and even album art from another app. This has happened ever since I have had the phone. The main problem I have been experiencing only for about a week, and has two main symptoms. The first is that when I connect the charger it only charges for a couple seconds then stops charging with the plug still connected. Second started around the same time so I believe it’s connected, the car app opens by itself. And once I close it the phone auto-rotates even though the auto-rotate option is disabled. I have confirmed that the problem isn’t on the charging cable, since it successfully charges my nexus 9.I tried the nexus 9’s cable (which is the same as the M8, the plug is a stock HTC charger) and the M8 still wouldn’t charge. My best guess is that there is a short circuit within the phone’s socket or something causing it to believe the phone has been docked or something. Could you help me solve it please? Thank you for your attention.
Solution: Regarding your gallery showing photos from everywhere there is a fix for this.
  • On your computer, open Notepad or any other text editor
  • Save the blank file as “.nomedia” and make sure that the Save as type is set as “All Files” instead of “Text documents”
  • Copy that file to the folder on your SD card containing the photo files you don’t want to show up. (Example: If you want to block your music album art from showing, place the .nomedia file in the music folder)
  • Reboot your phone and the files should no longer be viewable
As for the charging issue of your phone it looks like this could be a hardware issue. Have you tried checking if there is any dirt present in the charging port of your phone? The presence of dirt or debris may cause issues in charging. You can clean this up using a toothpick.
Before ruling this as a hardware issue though you should perform a factory reset on your phone. This allows you to eliminate any possibility of this issue being caused by your phone software. Maake sure to backup your data before performing this procedure.
  • Press and hold the VOLUME DOWN button, and then press and hold the POWER button.
  • Wait for the screen with the three Android images to appear, and then release the POWER and VOLUME DOWN buttons.
  • Press VOLUME DOWN to select FACTORY RESET, and then press the POWER button.
If the factory reset fails to resolve the issue then you should bring your phone to an authorized service center for checking and repair.
M8 Display Acts On It Own
ProblemOkay so my HTC m8 will sometimes when I’m texting press other things on my screen such as the attachment area or the same key twice and while writing this it scrolled up itself. Help wanna know If I should return it or how to solve this. Thanks in advance.
Solution: The touchscreen of your phone might be too sensitive causing this issue to happen. What you should do is to recalibrate your touchscreen.
  • Using two fingers swipe down on the status bar then touch the gear icon > Display & Gestures > G-Sensor calibration
  • Place your phone on a flat surface then touch Calibrate.
  • After the calibration process has finished tap Ok.
To fix your keyboard issues you should also calibrate the finger touch of our screen.
  • Open “Settings” and go to “Language and Keyboard”
  • Tap “HTC Sense Input”
  • Tap “Advanced”
  • Tap “Calibration tool” (Calibrate your screen for a better touch experience)
  • Now you are asked to type the given sentence
  • One done, Calibration Complete message appears
  • Hit “Reset Calibration” to reset screen to factory default
If your phone has a screen protector installed then this may also be affect the way the touchscreen works. Try removing it and check if the issue still persists.
To check if it is not any third party app that is causing this problem you should boot your phone in Safe Mode. Make sure to disable the Fastboot feature of your phone first.
  • Press and hold the Power button (located on the top edge of the device) until the ‘Phone options’ prompt appears then release.
  • Tap and hold Power off until the ‘Reboot to safe mode’ prompt appears then release.
  • From the ‘Reboot to safe mode’ prompt, tap RESTART to confirm.
  • Note Allow approximately 1 minute for the process to complete.
  • Note Upon reboot, ‘Safe mode’ appears in the lower left of the unlock/home screen.
If the issue disappears when your phone is in this mode then it’s probably an app that’s causing it. Find out what that app is and uninstall it. For this process you will have to do it with the trial and error method. Uninstall one app at a time and observe if the issue disappears.
M8 Contact Photo Can’t Be Saved
ProblemHello, I have an HTC One M8 and my carrier is AT&T. When I enter new contacts into my phone’s contact list I usually also add that persons picture. In the past this feature worked fine. But recently I have been unable to have it save to the contact. What usually happens is that when I am done cropping the photo and press the “done” button the screen will go completely black and then reopen the photo albums screen. But it does not save the picture to the contact. Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated. Thank you for your time and consideration on this issue.
Solution: First make sure that your contacts are saved on your phone and not on your SIM. Also make sure that your phone displays your contacts saved on the phone and not on the SIM. Once this has been accomplished try adding the photo again.
  • Tap the required contact.
  • Tap the add picture icon.
  • Tap Gallery.
  • Go to the required folder.
  • Tap the required picture.
  • Drag the frame to the required position to select the required detail.
  • Tap DONE.
If the screen still goes black after clicking on done then this might be caused by a glitch in the software. Wiping your phone cache partition usually helps in this case.
  • Turn off the device.
  • Press and hold the Volume Down key.
  • Press and release the Power key to turn the phone on.
  • Continue holding the Volume Down.
  • Release the Volume Down key when the three Android images appear on the bottom of the screen.
  • Press the Volume Down key once to move the cursor from FASTBOOT to RECOVERY.
  • Press the Power key to begin the wipe.
  • The device displays the bootup screen followed by a phone with a red triangle.
  • Press the Up Volume key and Power key at the same time.
  • Press the Down Volume key three times to select Wipe cache partition.
  • Press the Power key to initiate the wipe.
  • Wait until the phone displays Cache wipe complete.
  • Press the Power key to select Reboot system now.

Solution: You should do a factory reset first to eliminate any software related problems. Make usre to backup your data first before performing this procedure.
  • Press and hold the VOLUME DOWN button, and then press and hold the POWER button.
  • Wait for the screen with the three Android images to appear, and then release the POWER and VOLUME DOWN buttons.

M8 “build is for development purposes only” Error Occurs When Upgrading
ProblemMy m8 downloaded the 4.4.4 OTA but whenever I install and reboot I get a red message telling me this “build is for development purposes only” then the phone goes into recovery mode. I’ve deleted the update file and re-download it three times now and I keep getting the same prompt. Why cant I update and is there a solution or do I need to by a new phone?
Solution: Is the bootloader of your phone unlocked? If it is unlocked then you will be able to download the OTA updates however HTC has a disclaimer stating that “we do not guarantee that updating your device via FOTA will not render your device unusable”. This might be the issue happening with your phone right now.
Since your phone is stuck in recovery mode try to click on “wipe data/ factory reset” . This may help your phone work normally again however any data stored in your phone will be deleted.
